A |     (ECNS)-- The Pinglu Canal, China’s first major river-to-sea canal included in a national development plan, began live-ship trials on Wednesday, marking the final major test before the waterway opens to traffic.    The trial is the first comprehensive test to cover the canal’s entire navigable route using multiple types of vessels, and is intended to verify navigation safety and operational readiness ahead of its official opening.        Four representative vessels ranging from 1,000 to 5,000 metric tons are taking part in the trial along the canal’s main route.    Technicians will assess navigation stability, ship lock operations, anchorage areas, service facilities and navigation signaling systems under a range of operating conditions.     Construction of the canal is now more than 98% complete. As a key infrastructure project of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, the Pinglu Canal is scheduled to officially open to traffic in September.    (By Helen Mo, intern Lin Qiaochu)                    。
